Many guests appreciate the hotel's location at the intersection of highways 358 and 256, offering easy access to downtown and multiple beaches. The hotel is about 10 minutes from the Aquarium and 20 minutes from Mustang Island. There is also a movie theater right next door, as well as a Walmart and some chain restaurants, including IHOP.

Guests often describe the rooms as spacious and sparkling clean, with comfortable beds and well equipped kitchens. Families and groups love the extra privacy and space of the two-bedroom suites, which also offer two bathrooms. Four-legged guests appreciate that there are several grassy areas around the hotel and a little walking path for a bit of exercise.

The front desk staff has received many rave reviews for their friendly and professional customer service. Guests also send their compliments to the chef; the breakfast buffet offers a wide variety, including eggs, potatoes, bacon, steel cut oatmeal, fresh fruit and cereals. The Texas State shaped waffle iron is a hit with hungry kids of all ages.

A few guests found the furnishings a little worn, and the decor beginning to date. Some also found room for improvement in housekeeping.

Non-smoking guests assigned smoking rooms are quick to raise the issue, noting the cigarette odor is in all of the soft furnishings and no amount of spray can address it. A few were also bothered by the odor in the hallways.

Several guests have noted that the building is older and the exterior could use a bit of sprucing up. Some also find that the hallways and public areas could use more frequent vacuuming or cleaning.
