The town of Wilmington also known as the Port City and Wilmywood for its ties to many Hollywood television and movie connections. But history plays a big role in North Carolina and the town of Wilmington is no exception. This town boasts one of the largest historical districts in the United States.

Fishing tournaments are held throughout the year with varying species depending on what’s in season. Be sure to check ahead and if you enjoy fishing, charter a boat and try your luck. Each beachfront is no longer than 25 minutes away from one another and easily accessible, soak up the sun and spend a day enjoy these beautiful gems. Visit the Cape Fear Museum located downtown, is a History and Science museum that covers a variety of historical subjects. History buffs can literally spend an entire afternoon here, learning about the Historical role Wilmington played during World War II and everything since. Nearby the Bellamy Mansion is another museum that shares the integral roles Wilmington played during the wars and is also rumored to be haunted.
Take a break from walking and exploring by taking in the beauty of Wilmington at the gem of a park known as Bijou Park. Rest your weary feet for a moment and just simply experience the ambiance of Wilmington’s waterfront.
Getting Around
Unique to downtown Wilmington take a short ride on great deal of the free trolley that the town offers. But getting around is no more difficult than hailing a cab or catching a bus. Some luxury hotels in the area offer Shuttle Services from and to the airport and/or local attractions. Be sure to call ahead and find out if your hotel offers such options. Alternatively, the town of Wilmington offers an array of public transportation options.
Culinary Delights
Wilmington has an assortment of culinary cuisines to pick from ranging from cheap to moderately priced. “Genki Sushi” is a Japanese restaurant located downtown that’s been rated very highly by the locals and tourists. But if you’re looking for something all American, consider stopping by the “Cape Fear Seafood Company”, where great food is served fresh and locally caught. Hot dogs and briskets served at “Charlie Graingers” is known to be top notch and certainly a children pleaser. A cheap option may be to stop by “San Felipe” Mexican cuisine for some tasty tacos and burritos.

Make sure to research ahead of time for various seasonal events and deals on fishing tournaments, live musical concerts, and possible convention dates. . Choose your lodging wisely and stay close to all the action at the Courtyard Wilmington Downtown. Keeping in mind that Wilmington is a most humid town and certain items may not be available year round. Also keep in mind that while hotel and lodging reservations are typically available a week in advance, there are times where events will precipitate more visitors, if possible try to book ahead.
