In response to the booming mining population during the early 20th century the hotel was constructed in 1901 as the original Teller County Hospital. The hospital and surrounding property was refurbished as the Cripple Creek Hospitality House and Travel Park in the mid 1960s. The hotel is a historic property and contributes to the Cripple Creek national historic status listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
