Hillhead Subway Station (Glasgow, United Kingdom)
Hillhead Subway Station is one of 15 stations in the SPT (Strathclyde Partnership for Transport) Subway. All stations in the subway were opened in 1896 and were heavily rebuilt and modernised in the 1970s. Further embellishment of Hillhead Station is planned, with a mural being commissioned. Hillhead Station has two platforms for each of the rings, and escalators. The nearby places of interest at the station include Ashton Lane, Byres Road, the Glasgow Botanic Gardens & Kibble Palace, the Hunterian Art Gallery , the Hunterian Museum and Kelvin Gallery, Oran Mor, and the University of Glasgow campus. The station is one of the busiest on the system and has approximately 1.86 million passangers every year. Tickets must be purchased before passengers can access the platform. The SPT Subway is not wheelchair accessible and is not suitable for people with helper animals, such as guide dogs, as the animals may become distressed.
