Rushton Triangular Lodge is a triangular building that sits beside the road between Rushton and Desborough. It was built between 1593 and 1597 by Sir Thomas Tresham who was best known as the father of one of the members of the Gunpowder Plot and as a religious prisoner who was locked up for a total of 15 years for his refusal to renounce his Catholicism. The lodge reflects Tresham’s Catholic faith through the use of the number three representing the Trinity as well as a play on the ‘tres’ (or three in French) in his own name. The lodge has three sides, three floors, three triangular gables on each side and is covered in triangular designs. The Lodge is now managed for the nation by English Heritage and is open to the public from April 1st to November 1st. Admission is £3 (approx €3.5) for adults with reductions for children and concessions. Limited parking is available in a small lay-by on the road outside.
